Connectors are very smart data sources. They are used to connect existing IT systems like
ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), accounting, production planing, ... to
bluecube.
:bluecube extensively utilize meta data
- descriptions of everything. They describe ...
- Data structures (tables, fields and especially user defined tables and user defined fields),
- Translations - correct business terms in the language of your choice for the technical fields,
- Business rules for relationships between tables and dynamic unit-conversions (eg. USD, historic ATS+DM, etc to EUR or g, pieces and trucks to kg)
- Technical semantics - which fields are measures, which ones dimensions?
- Technical rules for insert/update/delete detection for the fastest relyable way to import and refresh the data,
- etc.
IT systems are often customized to speical business needs. Typicall things are different business clients, currencies and conversions,
processing rules for accounting and stock, custom processes with user defined tables/fields, ... . So no 2 SAP systems are the same.
The bluecube
connectors take care of this: When deploying a connector you just to tell the connector the physical address of the system you want to
analyze. The connector extracts the setup and customizing of the system and adjusts its definitions accordingly.
For changing envirionments we have another very powerful feature: The 2-click customizer. Click [Compare] the customized system with the standard and [Apply All] listed changes. Or you apply them indiviually.
The Extract Transform Load (ETL) process uses the connectors to find new
and modified data. Those data will then be loaded to the datawarehouse.
The import will run periodically - which can be defined - but can also be
started manually.
